Building a bridge between the disciplines of AI & design and exploring how to design human-centered AI applications

But, how?

AI meets Design toolkit

A set of tools for each step of the design (thinking) process to help designers turn AI into social, user, and business value. It's an invitation to designers and innovators everywhere to design with and for machine intelligence to create human-centered applications and meaningful user experiences. It includes:
  • What-if prompt card deck for ideation
  • Service blueprint opportunity mapping
  • Assessing feasibility, viability & desirability of AI ideas
  • Worksheets to align designers, engineers & BA’s
  • Overview of UX and design challenges
Read more if you're not yet convinced.

Inside the toolkit you'll find:

A 2-page crash course in AI/ML to help you get up to speed on different kinds of artificial intelligence and machine learning

Prompts to start spotting opportunities based on user needs, AI capabilities, and data availability and a card deck with 30 prompts of common AI applications for ideation sessions

Exercises to align with your machine learning engineers and data scientists on the model, confusion matrix, and evaluation metrics

Design patterns

This is a preview of what we want to develop next: a library of design patterns for the UX of AI. Reach out if you'd like to get involved.

Set intent

Give the user simple controls to set intent on what behavior to re-inforce, rather than assuming past behavior is desired.

Explaining output

Allow the user to see a simplified break-down of the model's logic including which data, features, and weights were considered for the output.

Exclude this activity

The user needs a way to exclude certain activities from being processed as input data for the algorithm, much like a mute button or 'incognito' mode.

“Human-centered design has expanded from the design of objects to the design of algorithms that determine the behavior of automated or intelligent systems”- Harry West

This project is the brainchild of Nadia Piet, a freelance strategic & service designer located in Amsterdam.

Get involved

The vision is to improve and develop more tools in collaboration with designers from around the globe. If you have a passion for AI and design, consider providing feedback, contributing ideas, or getting involved.
